"Americans Reconsider Afghanistan Mission," Angus Reid Global Monitor : Politics In Depth, January 31, 2007.

Right now, Harper is expected to face tough questions on the environment and Senate reform, but a major political struggle over Canada’s role in Afghanistan seems unlikely.

In November 2001, 64 per cent of Americans said 'success' in the war on terror would be defined by the capture of Osama bin Laden. Last September, the number had dropped to 45 per cent.

In Afghanistan itself, confidence in the future has dropped significantly over the past year, despite the perceived success of presidential and legislative elections conducted after the Taliban was ousted.

... opposition to what was once regarded almost universally as a just conflict is starting to ascend.
