1. December 8: Actions Planned for 20 Canadian Cities, 70 countries
Nearly 30 organizations have lent their support to organizing for December 8, the upcoming global day of action to stop climate chaos. The call to action in both French and English, as well as the lists of supporting organizations and communities where actions are taking place are online at www.climatechaos.ca. With the Canadian government continuing to welcome each increasingly dire UN climate report that comes out, while taking no real action to stop climate chaos, we need to intensify our organizing efforts for December 8 in Canada.
There are actions planned in twice as many countries, and almost 3 times as many Canadian cities as last year’s global day of action on climate change. Real breakthroughs are being made on a daily basis in building a truly global movement to stop the climate crisis. 2. Help Build December 8
A) Put information about December 8 (we encourage you to use the attached graphic) and/or a link to www.climatechaos.ca on your organization’s website. If you are involved in organizing a local demonstration check the “DEC 8” link on the Stop Climate Chaos website to make sure the information is up to date (let us know if it isn’t at: campaigns@actfortheearth.org) If your city is not listed, you should organize an event for December 8! Let us know so we can help promote it, and connect you with other organizers in your area.
B) Mobilize people emailing, mailing, or phoning the members of your organization, and any networks or coalitions you are involved in.
C) Help print or distribute posters and flyers for local December 8 actions (templates are available on the Stop Climate Chaos website).
D) Send a contingent from your organization to the local demonstration(s).
E) If there is any other support you can provide, let us know.

Your financial support for the cross-country December 8 organizing is urgently needed. Companies like Exxon-Mobil have been spending millions of dollars for over a decade to cast doubt on whether climate change is actually occurring. Needless to say, we don’t have anywhere near that kind of funding. We don’t even have paid staff. Yet working together, we have already laid the groundwork for the largest day of climate action in Canadian history. Even so, we need funding to be able to counter the advocates of inaction. Any donation, large or small, will play a huge role in building local demonstrations across Canada. Financial support will go to crucial organizing elements like outreach materials (posters, fliers, etc), advertising, D8 materials (like placards and banners), and logistical support (for things like sound equipment and high profile speaker honorariums).

On December 8, Rally Around the Earth for Climate Justice and a Safer, Healthier Planet!
You have a power you may not recognize - the power to stop climate chaos. According to the World Health Organization, climate change is already killing 150,000 people every year, and that could double to 300,000 annual deaths by 2030. Whole ecosystems face upheaval and millions of people face displacement. The climate is in crisis, but we can avoid climate catastrophe if we take action now to save the Kyoto Protocol.
People around the world are preparing for the largest planetary day of action yet to stop climate chaos. Join hundreds of thousands of people in 60 countries (and counting) who will be on the streets to demand that world leaders take the urgent and resolute action that is needed to prevent catastrophic climate chaos. The entire world needs to move as rapidly as possible to a stronger emissions reductions treaty, which is both equitable and effective in preventing dangerous climate change.
SAVE KYOTO. SAVE THE WORLD.
In December, 190 countries will meet in Bali, Indonesia for the UN Kyoto Climate Talks to negotiate our future. On December 8, the people of Canada can stand in solidarity with millions worldwide to demand our leaders take real action. It is time for the Canadian government to stop lagging behind and do its fair share on climate change. Long-time industrialized countries like Canada that have emitted most greenhouse gases up to now must take most of the responsibility for the adaptive measures that have to be taken, especially by helping low-emitting countries with limited economic resources.
In Canada, the case is particularly severe: Canada declared our Kyoto targets unachievable and joined Bush's club of polluting nations who think a "voluntary" approach will reach our commitments, rejecting the European model of real greenhouse gas reductions. The focus on reducing emissions "intensity" of the Asia Pacific Partnership is a literal carbon smokescreen that would actually allow overall emissions to go up instead of down. December 8 is our day to tell our government that the only path to a stable climate runs through Kyoto!
IT'S TIME FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE.
We categorically reject false technological "fixes" for climate change. Embracing questionable technologies will not only fail to solve our climate crisis, they may create new and dangerous problems. The renewable energy technologies needed to solve climate change exist today, and we need a "just transition" strategy in Canada to ensure workers in non-renewable energy industries can make the shift to the mass production of sustainable energy from water, wind and sun.
Although they did not cause climate change, billions of people in the global South will be most affected by it, losing their sources of food, livelihoods and sustenance. For many, it is a matter of life and death. Their voices must be heard around the world, and our policies and actions must support their courageous efforts to adapt to, as well as to offer creative solutions to, the alarming changes occurring in their ecosystems right now. December 8 could be the demonstration the world has been waiting for. The Earth needs you to take to the streets to demand climate action. Will you be a part of it?

Des manifestations et rassemblements autour du monde le 8 décembre pour la justice climatique et une planète saine et sécuritaire.
Vous possédez un pouvoir que vous ne pensiez peut-être pas avoir – le pouvoir de mettre fin à la crise du climat. Selon l'Organisation mondiale de la santé, les changements climatiques tuent déjà 150 000 personnes chaque année, et cela pourrait doubler à 300 000 d'ici 2030. Les écosystèmes sont boulversés et des millions de personnes font face au déplacement. Le climat est en crise, mais nous pouvons éviter la catastrophe climatique si nous prenons des mesures dès maintenant pour sauver le protocole de Kyoto.
Partout autour du monde, les gens se préparent pour la plus grande journée d’action pour mettre fin à la crise du climat. Ajouter votre voix à celles des centaines de milliers de personnes dans plus de 60 pays qui se rassembleront pour exiger que les leaders mondiaux prennent des mesures urgentes et résolues dont nous avons besoin pour éviter la déstabilisation catastrophique du climat global. La communauté internationale toute entière doit s'approcher le plus rapidement possible d'un traité qui exige plus de réductions d'émissions et qui est à la fois équitable et efficace dans la prévention de changements climatiques dangereux.
SAUVEZ KYOTO! SAUVEZ LA TERRE!
En décembre, 190 pays se réuniront à Bali en Indonésie pour négocier notre future sur la Terre dans le cadre de la conférence sur la Convention cadre des Nations Unies sur les changements climatiques. Le 8 décembre, le peuple canadien sera solidaire avec des millions de citoyens du monde pour exiger que de vraies mesures soient prises par les leaders mondiaux. Il est temps que le gouvernement canadien fasse sa part pour combattre le changement climatique. Les pays qui ont une longue histoire d'industrialisation, et qui ont donc émis les plus grandes quantités de gaz à effet de serre jusqu'à présent, doivent assumer la plupart des responsabilités concernant les mesures adaptives qu'il va falloir prendre, surtout en aidant les pays qui n'émettent pas beaucoup et qui disposent de ressources limitées.
Au Canada, le cas est particulièrement grave : le Canada a déclaré nos cibles de Kyoto « innateignables » et s’est rangé dans le club de Bush des nations polluantes qui pensent qu’une approche volontaire nous permettra d’atteindre nos engagements de Kyoto, rejetant ainsi le modèle européen de vraies réductions de gaz de à effet de serre. L’approche visant à simplement réduire l’intensité des émissions, tel que le veut le Partenariat Asie-Pacifique pour le développement propre et le climat, est un véritable écran de fumée qui permettra aux émissions globales de gaz à effet de serre d’augmenter au lieu de diminuer. Le 8 décembre est la journée pour dire à notre gouvernement que le seul chemin vers un climat stable passe par Kyoto !
IL EST TEMPS POUR LA JUSTICE CLIMATIQUE.
Nous rejetons catégoriquement des nouvelles technologiques qui ne fonctionnent pas et qui sont proposées comme solutions de rechange face aux changements climatiques. L’utilisation de technologies incertaines ne résoudra pas la crise du climat : ces dernières peuvent même engendrer de nouveaux problèmes. Il existe déjà des technologies d'énergies renouvelables pour résoudre le problème du réchauffement de la planète: nous avons donc besoin d'une stratégie de « transition juste » au Canada pour assurer que les ouvriers des industries d’énergies non-renouvelables puissent faire la transition vers la production en masse des énergies renouvelables (énegie hydraulique, éolienne et solaire).
Bien qu'ils n'aient pas causé les changements climatiques, les milliards de personnes dans les pays du Sud seront les plus affectés par ces changements, car ces derniers affecteront leur accès aux ressources alimentaires, ainsi que leurs gagnes-pain et leurs modes de vie. Pour plusieurs, le réchauffement planétaire est une question de vie et ou de mort. Leurs voix doivent être entendues autour du monde. Nos politiques et nos actions doivent non seulement soutenir leurs efforts courageux pour s'adapter aux changements effrayants qui ont déjà lieu auprès de leurs écosystèmes en ce moment, mais elles doivent aussi les aider à trouver des solutions. Le 8 décembre pourrait être la plus grande journée de manifestation dont nous attendions depuis longtemps. La Terre a besoin de vous pour revendiquer que nous passions immmédiatement à l’action contre le réchauffement planétaire. Serez-vous de la partie?
