In an article for the Business Standard, Shyam Ponappa uses game theory to suggest that a compromise may be better for both the political parties and the publc than the current stalemate because the stalemate denies nuclear access at the same time that it jeopardizes both parties chances of staying in power.
The UPA's willingness to partner with the US as much as necessary to access nuclear technology conflicts with the goal of its coalition partner, the Left bloc, to protect India's sovereignth and minimize alignment with the US.
Canadian observers should note that disarmament is not part of either the deadlock or the “solution.”
