Homelessness Marathon broadcast from Republican Convention

...from A-Infos Radio Project

The Homelessness Marathon is a 14 hour radio broadcast featuring the voices and stories of homeless people from around the US. It features live call-ins all night long via a national toll-free number and is available for free to all non-commercial stations. The seminal event, now in its 11th year, occurs in February.

Tomorrow (Sep 2 08), the Homelessness Marathon will be doing a special broadcast -- "Live From The March For Our Lives." This broadcast will be available over the internet at: http://kpftx.org:9000/homeless

The March For Our Lives will be a major poor people's demonstration outside the Republican National Convention. It will include homeless people, welfare mothers, people without health insurance and many, many others whose needs are not being met by the current economic order.

After a bit of sketchy research the organizers charge that "On the surface, at least, the millions of Americans who become homeless every year would seem to be just as unimportant to the left as they are to the powerful corporate oligarchs who control most of our nation’s media," and claim that "there isn’t much difference between the left media and the mainstream media in terms of priorities."

Though plans for the convention itself are in a state of flux, the march is going to go ahead as scheduled. We well understand that as we are on the air, a tragedy may be rapidly unfolding in the Gulf Coast, but as we saw after Katrina, it is a tragedy that, after its violent beginning, will continue to develop in slow motion for years to come. This slow-motion tragedy has already engulfed many millions of Americans, and we remain committed to bringing you the voices that are drowned out by the never-ending hurricane of the mainstream media.
