OTTAWA — With his party facing a challenge from the surging federal Liberals, Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe warned Quebecers Thursday that everything proposed by his counterpart, Michael Ignatieff, was a " new illusion" that will wind up becoming a disappointment.
In an open letter released by the Bloc, Duceppe said Ignatieff was following the tradition of former Liberal prime ministers, such as Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien, that recognized Quebec's distinctiveness, without any concrete actions to back up their words. Ignatieff must say where he stands on the issue of creating a national securities regulator which the Quebec government has opposed.
